Day 1 – Wilmington, VT

Thanks for all your votes and advice so far, but don’t make me limit your votes to one per person. You know who you are.

Like I said, I’m going to take you through our road trip from Boston to Michigan. Buckle your seatbelts. On Monday, the day before we left, we had loaded our crap into a trailer with the help of our wonderful strong friends. Luke scheduled a pick up for Tuesday, but the truck wasn’t going to be picked up until after we left and it was a little unnerving driving away and leaving the trailer, and all our stuff, totally dominating our driveway. We were never popular with the neighbors, anyways.

We only had a 100 or so miles to go that first day, so we took our time getting hit up Ride Studio with Liz one last time before getting down to the business of driving. We also tried to get La Posada one last time, yes before 11 AM, but sadly they weren’t open for lunch on Tuesday (or Monday). I rolled out of Boston blasting Pink’s greatest hits and wasn’t sad like I thought I’d be. Maybe it had something to do with the massive roast beast sandwich I’d just downed, which as I turned out, was a perfect way to bookend our Boston dining experiences.

Later that afternoon we found our way to Wilmington, Vermont – I love love Vermont. We took some really fun weekend trips to VT while we were in Boston and I’m going to miss it. Being in Vermont is like being in a different country. Most of the towns are nestled into the mountains, overlooking winding rivers. They are huge into fresh, local, and farms. And there are hippies everywhere.

We stayed at the Wilmington Inn & Tavern. On Tuesdays they feature a 5 Course “Chef’s Menu” so we lucked out being there on a Tuesday. It was a really yummy, and each course was paired with a delicious wine. Even better though, our waiter sounded exactly like Kip from Napoleon Dynamite.

Road Trippin’

As you (should) know, Luke and I just moved cross-country from Boston to Michigan. And at some point, we agreed that driving both our vehicles to Michigan – Mini Cooper and Kawasaki Mean Streak  Motorcycle – was a good idea. But it ended up being a great trip. We mostly took the scenic route and stretched the driving out over 5 days. We even had a mini vacation at Niagara Falls, which I wouldn’t recommend to others. Here’s the route we took:

I’ll be posting highlights from our road trip over the next few days, starting with our first stop in Wilmington, Vermont.
